Mobile Phones in the US

 

Cheapest ways to make calls in the United States, we would like to recommend TracFone, the only pay-as-you-go mobile phone that can be used for calling the United Kingdom and for local calls.

Buy a phone at Walmart or RadioShack for about $ 15 (£9). Sometimes the cheapest phones have call minutes included; otherwise you can buy time in 60-minute increments for $ 20 (£13).

You can call any number in the US and Canada directly. Calls to the UK are routed through a central administration number (no problem as it can be programmed in). This is by far the cheapest way of phoning home from North America. When you leave, you could give the phone to a goodwill store to pass on to a homeless person as an emergency phone.
